1. French Renaissance was a time of rebirth in literature and art. It took place from the 15th to 17th century.
2. Bastille Day, celebrated on July 14, 1789, is France's independence day.
3. In 1789 the citizens of France stormed the Bastille, sparking the French Revolution, and the eventual dethroning of the monarchy.
4. Every July, the Tour De France roars through the country starting in Strausbourg and ending in Paris 2,261 miles later.
5. Mount Blanc is the highest mountain in Western Europe.
Food:
1. Bouef Bourguignon- A famous beef stew in France.
2. Sole Meuniere- An expensive fish cooked in butter sause with a little bit of flour and lemon juice.
3. Pot au feu- Boiled beef with pork, chicken and vegetables.
4. Veal stew- Veal meat simmers in white sauce with mushrooms and onions. The white sause is made out of egg yolks, whipping cream and lemon juice.
5. Lamb Navarin- A stew made with lamb meat.
6. Cassoulet- White beans with lamb, mutton, pork, or sausage.( Breakfast food)
7. Sauerkraut- Fermenated cabbage. Includes sausage, bacon, or pork knuckle.
8. Bouillabaisse- Fish soup. Includes crabs, monk fish, scorpion fish, and others.
9. Mussels Mariniere- Summer recipe. Mussels cooked in white wine with parsley.
