Courtney Salopeck- Croatia

Flag: The croatian flag has three stripes that are red, white, and blue. It has a coat of arms in the middle of the flag. It has red and white checkers which is a croatian symbol. The sheilds are five of Croatia's regions, which are Croatia, Dubrovnik, Dalmatia, Istria and Slavonia.

Capital: Zagreb is the capital of Croatia. The Ban Josip Jelacic Square is located in Zgreb. It has been there since the 17th century and there are alot of buildings to see. It has the statue of Ban Jelacic that went up when Croatia regained its independence.

Money: Thier money is called Kuna and it comes in 5,10,20,50,100,200,500, and 1,000. The coins come in 1, 2, 5, 10, and 20 lipa.

History:
1. Different cultures have been coming to the area including Romans, Slavs, and Austrians.
2. Croatia was founded on the ruins of the Roman Empire.
3. King Tamislav established the first Croatian state in 925.
4. Hungary controlled Croatia in the 11th and 12th century.
5. Peace agreement was signed in Paris on December 14, 1995.

Food:
1. Burek- pastry filled with heavy cheese meat or apples.
2.Cevapcici- spicy meatball made of beef or pork.
3. Palacinke- just like a crepe, usually filled with chocolate and walnuts.
4. Blitva- contains swiss chard that is boiled and served with olive oil, potatoes and garlic.
5. Pag cheese- has a sharp flavor and is made from sheep's milk.
6. Bakalar- dried cod, can be prepared in many different ways and its usually eaten on Christmas Eve.
7. Raznjici- A croatian style shish kabob.
8. Croatian style pizza- The same toppings are used, except they only make it home made and the crust is usually thicker.
9. Spajenki- Meat filled cuisine.
10. Kulen- A type of sausage very similar to salami.

What I Learned: I learned alot while doing my research. I learned about the Croatian money and that there are different names for coins and dollars, Kuna and Lipa.
