Jeffrey Belic- Poland Flag: The poland flag is a regularly shaped rectangle flag with a white stripe on top and a red stripe on the bottom. Though seemingly meaningless and basic, the red and white flag holds alot of meaning to residents of Poland. The colors of the flag are matching the Coat of Arms which is their protection symbol. The red stands for the blood that was lost in their battle for independance while the white symbolizes peace. President: Poland is set up as a republic government with a and unlike the us, the leader in power is known as their president and prime minister. They are reffered to as President of the Ministers. Poland's current President of the Ministers is Bronislaw Komorowski. Capital: The capital of Poland is Warsaw. It had been almost completely destroyed during the Warsaw Ghetto as it was attacked during the World War II. Money: The currency that Poland uses are złoty(s). (1 Polish złoty = 0.35) History:
1- Polands first leader, Duke Mieszko I converted to christianity after marrying Dabrowka of Bohemia. It was looked at as the birth of their country. After he accepted christianity, he became part of what is called the Sphere of Western Culture. Poznan became the capital city and Poland was put under the protection of the Pope of Germany (966 A.D).
2- Poland's capital is moved from Krakow to Warsaw (1596-1609)
3- Tadeusz Kosciuszko, a general who helped America win their revolution, tries to overpower Russia in an attempt for independance and fails (1794)
4- Poland obtains western Prussia and gains access to the Baltic Sea through the Treaty of Versailles.
5- The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising completely destroyed Warsaw because of the attack put on Poland. Food:
Paczki- pre lenten jelly doughnuts.
Drachena- polish omlett.
Kotlet Schabowy- pork cutlet.
Kotlet Mielony- fried minced polish meatballs.
Rosol- polish soup with carrots, celery, parsley, and leek.
Zurek- basically rye soup- sausage, hardboiled egg, and portions of pork.
Bigos- a type of soup mixture made from assorted meats, spices, vegetables ,and red wine.
Pierogi ruskie- basically the kind of perogies we eat here in America.
Golabki- stuffed cabbage with meat, onion, mushrooms, and cream for filling.
Polish Pancakes- the same kind of pancakes we eat but they use jam for syrup. What I Learned: The most important thing that i learned during this project was how a country other than America was affected during the World War II. I learned that in Poland, a whole town had been completely destroyed along with many historical buildings. Luckily, the buildings have been carefully rebuilt, but the attack is still noticable today. I also learned that the type of governmental leader that Poland has is a combination of a president and a prime minister. They are reffered to as President of the Ministers.
I now know that the type of currency system that Poland uses is the zoty system. Its value is about 35% that of the American dollar. Along with that, I have a better understanding of how limited the english keyboard is compared to all the possible signs and letters it could contain.
